Waawoono helps Nations across Turtle Island realize their community-building goals for better governance, operational excellence, economic independence and systems for managing land and social programs.
Our team is unique and committed to creating equity, wealth and improved quality of life for Indigenous peoples.
We aim to improve the quality of life by building grassroots community level capacity in the areas of social, cultural, environmental and economic sectors to develop or advance comprehensive community plans.
We work with community lands and resource departments for infrastructure and natural resource development.
We provide services on governance design, decision-making frameworks, community business or economic development structuring, and trust or wealth management structures that enable strong leadership and sovereignty.
Through community economic development and wealth generation, we aim to help build capacity and empower communities in their journey for their source of revenue, and ambitions for self-government, self-determination and sovereignty.
The Waawoono team has done work with all types of companies across Canada including publicly traded companies, crown corporations and private businesses.
If a company does not know where to start the Waawoono team provides a strategic assessment to develop a scope of work that aligns with the company’s Indigenous relations goals. This may include a benchmarking report that is industry-specific, change management plan, organizational transformation initiative or a reconciliation action plan.
Waawoono also had a team dedicated to community engagement, impact benefit agreement negotiations and economic partnership modeling. Other services include sustainability planning and reporting from an Indigenous leds and setting up the company’s framework for sustainability goal setting and disclosure reporting that will become a requirement in the near future.
